7 Year Itch

So, I haven't written for almost 7 years...yikes.  So what's happened in the past 7 years?

(Not in order of importance):

• finished my M.ENG degree
• all my friends moved away from Toronto /ok...maybe not ALL of them
• sold my condo
• bought a house
• had a kid
• had another kid
• got laid off
• got my teaching degree
• became a teacher
• went back to engineering
• the oilers still haven't made the playoffs /OMG
• the raptors have made the playoffs 3 years straight /whaa?
• the blue jays made the playoffs /OMG
• sold my E46 /tear
• bought my uncle's S2000 /GRIN
• got rid of the orange mazda rustbucket
• got an A4 /meh
• got a CT-200h /thumbs up to saving on gas
• installed a new convertible top on the s2k /sweet
• brook has 3.9 kids now
• chris has 1.4 kids now
• dex has TWO porsches /SHEESH
• read lotsa books /surprise

If I think of more I will add to the list.  I've also been watching a lot of Quinton TV on youtube and am now inspired to post my own vids of me fawning over cars.  I'm gonna do it...I swear...book it.

Return To Form

Thanks to the pirates of the interweb I've been privileged to sample Massive Attack's new album Heligoland, named after the German Archipelago in the North Sea (an archipelago is a chain of islands formed tectonically, according to the almighty Wikipedia). Dark, layered, melancholic yet melodic, this is the album I've been waiting for since Protection. Yes, Mezzanine had its highlights, but Heligoland is just more enjoyable. And isn't that what music is for?

P.S. Hearing the album accurately through my new Sony MDR-V700DJ headphones is eye-opening (or would that be ear-opening?)...the fullness of sound is remarkable.

P.P.S. For all those who may get their panties in a knot (that includes you, Daddy G and 3-D!) cuz I teefed this album, feel free to unknot those panties since I fully intend to pick up the vinyl deluxe album (which includes 6 more tracks, mostly remixes) when it is available (Feb 9th, I believe).

Simple as Cut 'N' Paste

Smack My Bitch Up is one of my favourite Prodigy tracks. While I knew that The Prodigy used many samples to construct their music, I had always assumed most of it was original composition. Well, in this case, I was wrong. But how they put this together is simply amazing. And so is the dude who figured it out. Prepare yourself to be wow'd.
